David Wilson Making the Most of His Opportunity

In the second quarter of the game on Sunday Andre Brown took a hand off and got roughed up by the opposing defense and was down on the floor. Because of that injury Ahmad Bradshaw ended up having a big game, but more impressive was the face that David Wilson came in as the second RB and had a 40 yard rushing TD. He finished with two rushes for 44 yards and a TD

David Wilson has been really impressive the last two weeks. Last week David Wilson made his impact in the return game accumulating 217 yards on 6 kick returns and consistently looking like he was about to break one to the house. If he continues to run the ball, using his speed to go North and South, the Giants fans should be seeing him on the field a lot more.

In 2008 it was ‘Earth, Wind and Fire.’ In 2012 how about ‘Bruised, Rookie and Filler’

The 2012-13 New York Giants backfield is starting to look like a fantasy situation to avoid.

Option A: Ahmad Bradshaw has definitely earned his stripes with the G-Men, but his latest neck injury episode has dislodged his position as the undisputed starter this season. Let’s not forget that before the season started, the fantasy world all knew Bradshaw would not get a grown man’s workload anyway. His fragile frame is now something the coaching staff must monitor, which likely means sharing the love amongst the Giants’ other backs.

Option B: David Wilson approached this season with all the hype that his first-round draft position deserved–and more. Unfortunately he lost Tom Coughlin’s trust after he lost a fumble in his rookie debut. Highlighted by a meager 1.3 YPC on his carries this season, Wilson has had a tough time recovering. We can assume that for the foreseeable future, the Giants will likely only grant him touches sparingly and situationally. However, nobody has forgotten that he has elite back speed worthy of a more serious role down the line.

Option C: Andre Brown had one opportunity to prove himself in Bradshaw’s absence Week 3 and he took full advantage. Earning an impressive 5.7 YPC and finding the endzone twice, Brown showed the football world why he is worthy of at least some touches on a weekly basis. When all three backs are healthy, his size will afford him the change-of-pace role and perhaps even consideration as the most reliable option out of the backfield.

Give it a few weeks at most and the Giants will demonstrate a tag that will make fantasy owners cringe: RBBC (running-back by-committee). However, it is worth noting that having several different and viable options at the tailback position is a win for the Red and Blue.

What To Take From Giants Win

Last night the Giants destroyed the Panthers by the score of 36-7 to get to 2-1. Lets break it down:

1. Andre The Giant and Prince Ramses

The Giants controlled every portion of the game yesterday and it started with the running game. Andre Brown rushed for 113 yards on 20 carries and score a touchdown. If he keeps this up Ahmad Bradshaw should be worried about his job security.

Ramses Barden had an awesome game as well. The thing I saw that I liked was the fact that he was able to get off of press coverage rather well. I am sure we will see a lot more playing time for him in the coming weeks

2. The Giants Defense Was Awesome

Stopping Cam Newton is not an easy task, but the Giants made it look so easy. They stopped the running game of the Panthers and forced Cam to abandon the run and throw the ball for the rest of the game.

3. Martellus Bennett Is a Top Tight End

Martellus had another touchdown last night. He now has 3 on the season, and is a big part  of the red zone package for the Giants. His size and speed are abnormal and the Giants are usuing him in the right way

What’s Next: The Giants have 13 days off before going to Philadelphia to face the Eagles

3 Keys For Tonight’s Game

Taken From Tumblr

Tonight the Giants take on the Panthers on national television for their second game in 5 days. Here are the keys to the game

1. Run the Football

this is the key to the game for the Giants. Running the football takes the burden off of Eli Manning, especially since Hakeem Nicks is out. Also it keeps Cam Newton off the field. Andre Brown is going to have to have a big game for the Giants to be able to control this game

2. Generate A Pass Rush

For the past two games, the defensive line has been close but not fully there yet. For the Giants to be successful they will need to hit Cam Newton, and they will need to force him to stay in the pocket and make his reads. If he manages to escape the pocket it could be a long day for the Giants

3. The Safety Play

With Prince Amukamura coming back it takes a little of the burden on Antrelle and Kenny Phillips off them, but Prince is not 100% yet so the safeties will need to be on their game especially vs a team that loves to throw the long ball like the Panthers. Look for Cam to keep attacking Prince Amukamura and we will see if Antrelle and Kenny could help him out

Prediction: Panthers 34 Giants 27. I think that the injuries to the Giants will really hurt them this week. Cam will have a great game. On the Giants look for Andre Brown to have a big game though

Nicks, Bradshaw, Diehl, Hixon ruled out v.s Carolina

WR Hakeem Nicks, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, OT David Diehl, and WR Domenik Hixon have been ruled out for Tomorrow’s game v.s Carolina.

Nicks, coming off NFC offensive player of the week, will be held out of Thursday’s game due to a sore foot. Nicks, who had offseason surgery on his foot, is being held out for precautionary reasons with a short week of practice. No reason to worry here. He’ll be back next weekend v.s Eagles.

Bradshaw left Sunday’s game v.s Tampa Bay with a neck injury. After an MRI revealed no structural damage, the Giants announced that Bradshaw has a sprained neck and would be evaluated on a day to day basis. RB Andre Brown filled the void at RB and played very well. Brown will start in place of Bradshaw tomorrow night with rookie David Wilson backing him up.

Diehl left Sunday’s game with a knee injury. At firs,t many in the organization feared that Diehl had torn his ACL. MRI results showed no structural damage and he was diagnosed with a Sprained MCL. Diehl will likely be out 2-6 weeks. OT Will Beatty will replace Diehl.

Hixon left Sunday’s game with an apparent head injury. He was later diagnosed with a concussion. He will not be cleared until he passes all concussion tests. Until then he will remain sidelined. Look for Rookie WR Rueben Randle to take advantage of this opportunity

What To Take From the Giants Loss vs. the Cowboys

Well that was not fun for Giant fans. The Giants put up a stinker on Wednesday night losing to the rival Cowboys by the score of 24-17. Lets break this game down for you:

1. The Giants Offensive Line Woes Have Emerged

The Giants offensive line tonight was terrible. In the passing game it seemed like Eli Manning had to step away from pressure the whole game. He was flustered. Especially David Diehl looked extremely slow tonight vs. DeMarcus Ware. In the running game there were really not a lot of holes for Bradshaw to go through if any at all.

Just a terrible performance.

2. The Giants DL Got Tired

The Giants came out looking like the defense that they were during that Super Bowl run last year, but the losses of Marvin Austin, Shaun Rodgers, and other key pieces really hurt them after the half. You saw the push that Rocky Bernard was getting at the beginning starting to fade away as the game went on, and that led to bigger holes for DeMarco Murray to run through.

Once they get healthy they should be a dominant defense again.

3. Ahmad Bradshaw Does Not Hit The Hole

Although the offensive lineplay was poor i felt as if Bradshaw was going east and west a lot more than north and south. In English, he was not hitting the holes when there were holes. Maybe he has lost a little burst but he struggled for most of the night due to his inability to hit the hole when it actually emerged.

4. Victor Cruz Had a Terrible Game

3 dropped passes, an illegal block and a couple of false starts. That is unacceptable. I understand that he was pumped for this game, but there should be no reason for him to be making those mistakes. The Giants need him and I thought Cruz’s miscues was as much a cause for this loss as the offensive line

5. Lets End On a Positive

With all the injuries the Giants were dealing with it was impressive to see them stay in the game for this long. It was only a matter of time before Romo started exploiting the terrible cornerback situation the Giants put themselves into. On top of that, you cant blame Eli because the Cowboys defense was just a lot better tonight. Finally on a closing note, Jason Pierre-Paul looked great. He disrupted a couple of plays from Tony Romo, but could not get the big sack.

What’s Next: The Giants take their talents to Tampa Bay next week to play the Bucaneers @ 1 PM.

5 Postgame Thoughts on Giants vs. Jets

Taken From ThatsEnuff

Last night the Giants handed the Jets an ass-whooping by the score of 26-3. There was a lot of good for the Giants and a lot of bad for the Jets. So lets break it down:

1. Giants Defensive Line is In Mid-Season Form

The Giants defensive line last night manhandled the Jets offensive line. Jason Pierre-Paul ended up with two sacks in only a half of football. Also Justin Tuck would have had two sacks if not for an offsides penalty on one of his teammates jumping offsides in the first quarter. Awesome performance

2. Wayne Hunter Is Terrible

Not taking anything away from the Giants here because their defensive line is great. Wayne Hunter was on his ass more of the game than he was blocking the guys. All JPP had to do was actually push and it was over for Wayne Hunter. He doesn’t look like he could be a starter in this league.

3. You Cannot Blame Mark Sanchez For The Poor Performance

Other than the interception none of the offense’s 3 and outs were his fault. When your first read is making sure that your RT is still blocking the opposing defender, you will usually fail, and that is what has happened to Mark since Wayne Hunter has taken over at RT

4. Giants RB’s Shaky Again

The one thing the Giants wanted to improve on from last year was the running game and last night showed they still have some problems with run blocking. You can’t read too much into preseason because it is only a small portion of their offense, but it did not look pretty for the Giant RB’s

5. Eli to Victor Cruz Looked Amazing Last Night

In the first half Victor Cruz was dominating the Jets like he did two years ago in the first preseason game, and like he did last year in their week 16 game. Just imagine how much more space he will have when Hakeem Nicks is back on the field.

3 Giants Players To Watch Going Into Week 1 of the Preseason

Taken From On the Field Tumblr

The Super Bowl Champs will play the Jaguars (minus MJD) for their first preseason game of the year. Here are 3 players to watch for the Giants going into the game:

1. Reuben Randle

When the Giants lost Manningham to the 49ers they were left with a question mark at the 3rd WR position. So in the second round of the NFL draft this year they draft Reuben Randle. Randle is battling Ramses Barden, and Jerrel Jernigan to take over the 3rd WR position. The Giants are hoping he could take over the role that Manningham played in the amazing Super Bowl run. He is going to need to impress Tom Coughlin and co. to get that done.

2. Will Hill

So much as been made about this guy during training camp. All the beat writers are talking about his stellar play in training camp. The Giants need someone, so Antrell Rolle could stay at the safety position when the Giants play their nickel defense. Impressing in training camp is great, bet lets see if he can translate that onto the field.

3. Mark Herzlich

Tom Coughlin is really happy with the way that Herzlich is playing with the first team. He has made a couple of nice plays in the zone and while blitzing during practice. Let’se see how the Giants use him in a game

The Quiet and Successful Franchise V.S The Loud and Underachieving Franchise

sociallysuperlative.com

Eli Manning, the two time Superbowl M.V.P, seems to be the least talked about Quarterback in New York for some reason. Not only does he perform at a high level on the field, he is laid back and funny off the field. He hosted Saturday Night Live this summer and it got a big hit. The man just thrives in every situation and is consistent in everything he does on the field and what he says and does off the field. But for some reason the Quarterback controversy on the New York Jets between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow seems to be making the loudest noise this offseason.

Tim Tebow, himself, brings a lot of attention with the large fan base that he has. He was the story of the year last year when he led the hopeless Broncos to the playoffs and won a playoff game. He seems to draw a lot of attention, and mostly because he is so popular, and not what he does on the field. He is not dominant in no way shape or form on the field but his attitude sparks a media “war”. There are many critiques of Tebow out there but it seems inevitable that the fan base that Tebow has will force Jets management to start Tebow once Sanchez begins to struggle. His fan base in Denver ran Kyle Orton out of town and I expect the same to happen to Sanchez, if he has early struggles.

Meanwhile, the other team in town, the New York Giants, are coming off a dramatic Super Bowl run and winning their second Super Bowl in four years. Yet, the naysayers and critiques still don’t give this team a chance this upcoming season. Eli Manning, the two time Super Bowl M.V.P, likes to have some fun in the offseason by doing some commercials and advertising, but always does his work in the weight room and on the field before he gets to the off the field responsibilities. Manning seems to stay out of any sort of drama every summer and quietly improves his game. He consistently shows up to camp looking better than ever year in and year out. Eli Manning is strictly business and pours in his heart and dedication to continue the Giants winning tradition.

Winning Super Bowls in New York isin’t enough I guess. The Tim Tebow circus has taken over New York and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon. For Mark Sanchez, its only a matter of time before the Tebow “lovers” come out and force him out of the starting role. You got to feel for Sanchez and the situation the Jets Management has put him into. Coming into his Fourth NFL season and going to back to back AFC Championship games in his first two seasons, he failed to live up to expectations last year and the Jets failed to make the playoffs for the first time under the Rex Ryan Regime. The Jets decided to go get the NFL’s most popular but less successful quarterback to backup Sanchez. Maybe this will light a fire under Sanchez’s behind and turn him into the Pro Bowler many see him being in the future. This is a risky move by bringing in Tebow because it could either turn the Franchise around or upside down.

The Giants are the more successful Franchise because they seem to stay out of the news and fly under the radar, while the Jets love to leak out information to the Media to win the battle of P.R. Winning P.R battles will put you on top during the offseason but when Training Camp begins and the Regular Season begins it’s all about the teams play on the field. The Giants ownership does a great job by disciplining its players to remain focused on winning football games. The Jets offseason hype will end shortly when the Regular Season begins and people begin to recognize who is the better football team in New York, and that clearly is the defending Super Bowl champs: The New York Football Giants.

Fantasy Forecast: Eli Manning

All the doubters who considered the Giants’ Superbowl victory in 2008 to be a fluke ate their words last year when they accomplished the same feat against an arguably-better Patriots squad. Perhaps the greatest winner among the winners was Eli Manning, who may have finally shed the label of “immaturity” that once-characterized his game. It may be hard for you to believe if you’ve seen any of his fluffy commercials, but in 2012 Eli will be back with a brutal vengeance.

The Giants’ offense is primed to be in the top echelon this year, and Eli could not have asked for a better weapons arsenal. While defenses double-teamed Hakeem Nicks for a major part of last season, Victor Cruz took great advantage of deep single-coverage opportunities. Fantasy owners who owned Cruz were as happy as the first time they saw breasts. This season, Eli will have the privilege of working with two of the league’s premier receiving threats. Lucky for his fantasy owners, both Cruz and Nicks are deep-ball receivers. The Giants’ offense will stretch vertically and Eli will certainly average more YPC (yards per completion) when he targets his two playmaking buddies.

The latest ADP reports suggest Eli is drafted 9th among quarterbacks, in as late as the middle of the sixth round. When Aaron Rodgers and other headline quarterbacks are taken foolishly early, fantasy managers will concentrate on other skill positions, and that is when undervalued Eli Manning will prove to be a draft day steal.

Eli Owners should not be shaken by the presence of Ahmad Bradshaw or even the rookie acquisition of David Wilson for three reasons:
1.  The Giants have already announced they will execute a RBBC (running back by-committee), so neither Bradshaw nor Wilson will have the opportunity to stand out as an offensive centerpiece. The Giants will remain a pass-oriented offense under Eli Manning for the foreseeable future.
2. Thankfully with the offense stretched vertically downfield, Eli will have the privelege of shuffling off passes to his “scat-backs” in the flat. Linebackers will be disoriented and occupied, so the dynamic speed of Bradshaw and Wilson will allow Eli to dump the ball off and earn what fantasy quarterbacks loves most: YAC (yards after catch). Do not be surprised to see a mutual fantasy benefit similar to the Drew Brees-Darren Sproles phenomenon last season.
3. Fantasy success comes down to touchdowns, and in that arena, Eli will own the Giants’ opportunities at the goal line. Bradshaw and Wilson are both speedy, elusive backs who thrive in open space. Not to knock their skill or athleticism, but their talents are unsuitable for the strong, pounding run style that teams seek wheen employing their backs at the goal line. Within five yards of the end zone, expect to see the Giants use a lot of play-action plays to rookie Martellus Bennett, or the even-jucier fade passes to Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

BEWARE: Every rose has its thorns and Eli’s success is one you will have to monitor and sell-high like stock trading. There is no question he will have an incredible fantasy season, and his owners will reap the benefits. However, in weeks 15-17, Eli faces the 5th most difficult schedule in the league for quarterbacks. In your leagues that will mean he will face tough matchups during the fantasy playoffs. The prime suggestion is to watch Eli’s stock value skyrocket, start racking up Ws in the win column, and sell him to an unsuspecting fantasy owner near your league’s trade deadline.

In fantasy 2012, Eli Manning will indeed be a giant.
